Hi! I am a second year English Language and Literature student at St John's College, Oxford. I received a distinction/academic scholarship in my preliminary examinations at Oxford (earning me the exciting title of 'scholar') and I am eager to share my knowledge of English (Language and/or Literature) with students who need advice, support, specialist knowledge, and/or extra experience. I achieved 6 A's at AS level in the following subjects: English Literature, English Language, Early Modern History, Drama and Theatre Studies, Media Studies, and Critical Thinking. At A2, having dropped Media Studies and Critical Thinking, I achieved 2 A*s and 2 A's. I achieved full-marks in the entirety of my English Language A-level and was awarded an A* for my literature-oriented Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).
As someone who LOVES my subject, my teaching approach is, most of all, based on enthusiasm. I welcome students of all abilities and confidence-levels, I'm flexible in tailoring my style of teaching to your needs, and promise to be totally informal, honest, friendly, and very specific in my advice (that applies to sharing personal experiences of my Oxford interview/application as well as literary/linguistic knowledge). Although this is totally optional, I like to read over students' essays/submitted work in order to give detailed, practical and relevant advice to whoever I'm teaching (focusing on close-reading skills, essay structure, exam technique, written style, and knowledge). I'm also willing to do practice interviews (especially for Oxford/Cambridge applicants, although not exclusively), give critique of practice ELAT papers, and proof-read and give advice on personal statements on top of more generally helping students out with school-exams/coursework. Plus, if you'd like me to try any new teaching techniques not already covered, I'm always up for a challenge and a laugh!
As a student ambassador for St John's college, Oxford, I'm used to working with young university applicants (participating in Q&A sessions and informal chats about the stresses and demands of uni application). I have a Level One JSLA teaching award, I co-taught a free drama course/society for students at Bournemouth School for Girls (managing over one-hundred students and two theatrical productions across two years), I continue to informally give advice on the work of my fellow students, and, in the run up to my uni application, read over countless personal statements and participated in many practice interviews. As a twin (who is also on this website, in case you were wondering if we're clones!), I'm used to having fun and friendly revision sessions!
I'm a gamer (almost finished Portal II at the moment), musician, am-dram actress, cinema-nut, and avid tea-drinker.
