William B.
I'm an English lawyer, specialising in maritime law. I qualified at an international law firm and is now based in the London office of a major international marine insurer. As an undergraduate, I attended the University of York, graduating in 2005 with a BA(Hons) in English and Related Literature. I studied law at BPP College and Nottingham Trent University, graduating with a Graduate LLB(Hons) in 2013.
My conversational teaching style emphasises student-led discussion with intermittent correction as appropriate, as well as broadening students' understanding of tone / register and alternative expressions. I won praise from adult students for his understanding of English grammar, pronunciation and the structures of formal English writing. From my legal and insurance career, i have gained several years' experience of composing and proofing legal correspondence, reports to internal and client management, legal advice, and industry articles at professional level. My undergraduate studies and subsequent reading have also given me a broad understanding of literature and literary criticism, in particular modern literature. Currently i'm available for Saturdays / Sundays only.
Prior to my legal career, i spent three years in South Korea as an English and Literature teacher, teaching students from the ages of 6 to 13 at all levels from Beginner to Advanced. On my return to the UK to attend law school, I taught adults at schools in Leeds and Central London, focusing on conversational English, Business / Legal English and exam preparation (IELTS / CPE / CAE / TOIEC).
I enjoys literature, chess, gardening, writing music, and watching sport (particularly boxing, rugby, and sumo). Age and injury have, sadly, put an end to my own boxing.
