I’m a second-year Mathematics and Computer Science student at the University of Oxford with over 2 years of experience in private tuition. I offer tuition in mathematics, physics, and computer science at all levels up to undergraduate level, and in university admissions tests (e.g. STEP/MAT) and interview preparation.
My strong belief is in the Socratic method - that students should figure out as much as they can on their own, helped along the way by the tutor. Doing well at mathematics and its related subjects requires a balance of intuition and formality, and lots of practice. I will start by discussing a wide array of topics with the student to find out what they need to work on. Then we’ll dive into the theory of a few topics, discovering results together and talking through different ways of thinking about the same concept. Finally, we’ll do lots of practice questions to hone the student’s problem-solving skills - the most important part of being a good mathematician (or physicist/computer scientist)! Of course, the exact details of what the tutorials entail will depend entirely on the student!
In my spare time I play a lot of piano (diploma level) and violin, and I can also offer tuition in music theory, which I have experience teaching up to ABRSM grade 5.
