James L.
Thank you for taking a look at my profile! I am an artist currently studying at the Royal Academy Schools, a prestigious and fully funded three year postgraduate course which admits around 15 students internationally each year and is taught within the Royal Academy of Arts, London. Prior to this I studied BFA Fine Art at the Ruskin School of Art, Oxford University (LMH College). Six months after graduating in 2013, I was awarded the £30,000 Sky Academy Arts Scholarship. I have twice been awarded grants from the Arts Council England and have recently been Artist in Residence at public institutions including; The New Art Gallery Walsall, Ikon Gallery and the Henry Moore Institute. This year I opened two exhibitions in Mexico City and exhibited in Premiums, at the Royal Academy of Arts, London. I completed my GCSEs and A Levels in Oxford at Magdalen College School, where I took A Levels in English Literature, Religious Studies and Fine Art. I hope that my career as an artist, my artistic achievements and my academic record gives you confidence in selecting me as your tutor! I am available for part time tutoring throughout the year in London and can offer tutoring or general advice either in person, by Skype or by email. In addition to teaching art, I can offer help with personal statements and university applications – especially Oxbridge-style interviews. Please contact me if you need any help or have further questions, it is so important to get the right tutor and I'm more than happy to help you make the right decision!
I am excited and passionate about both art and my students - I want to get the best out of my students, encouraging them and helping them develop. I have been fortunate to have had some fantastic teaching over the years and want to be able to pass on the enthusiasm and energy which has helped me develop and excel.
I been advising students for many years with application and portfolio preparation for applying to study undergraduate Fine Art, specifically at the University of Oxford. I have recent teaching experience at undergraduate level (BA/BFA) Fine Art so have first hand knowledge of the level that a prospective student needs to be at and how I can help them achieve this!
I am absolutely obsessive about art and visiting galleries and museums is one of my favourite things to do. I enjoy travel, I have recently spent time in Beijing and Mexico City, finding's it fascinating to learn more about the art movements happening in each city on opposite sides of the world. I am an avid cyclist, often riding 60km before I get to the studio at 9.00 in the morning. I also enjoy outdoor swimming, I meet a friend once a week to swim in the, freezing cold, Serpentine lake in Hyde Park!
