I have been studying Japanese for ten years now, since I went on a homestay deep in the Japanese countryside. I then resolved to go to university to study the language and culture. I spent four happy years at Oxford, including one spent as a student at Kobe University in Japan, before graduating in 2015. I then went on to live in a number of different countries, before returning to London to complete a masters in anthropology at SOAS, where I utilised my Japanese in ethnographic fieldwork. Now I am working full time as a Japanese tutor and translator, and I hope to pass on my passion for languages to my students. I did IB. Here are the subjects that i have done. HIgher level English 7 French 6 History 7 Standard level ab initio Japanese 7, Physics 6, Maths 5 EE subject : English Literature
I am first identify the student's weak spots, and through specific, constructive feedback I aim to instill the student with a sense of responsibility for their own learning. This includes using different activities, videos, audio clips and bad jokes over a series of lessons to make it interesting and memorable, but also showing the student resources they can access in their own time. To me, it’s also very important that I learn about a student's interests, personality and learning style. Then I can create tailor-made lessons that will help the student succeed.
From 2015- 2016 I worked in a tutoring company in Hong Kong, delivering lessons based on various British English Lanaguage and Literature curriculums (GCSE, iGCSE, A-Level, IB, Pre-U), from years 5-18. I then spent a year working in a British international school in Peru, where I taught IB English B to students in their final year. I have now been tutoring for two years, during that time I began to teach Japanese language and culture. My experience in the classroom especially has allowed me to hone my skills as an educator in creating effective schemes of work.
Languages are my first passion, and I speak Japanese, French and Spanish. The latter I picked up whilst living in Peru, where I embarked on some of the world's great hikes (another passion of mine). Having lived in Argentina, I also picked up some skills as a static trapeze artist and I continue to practice here in London. In between reading and writing, I also enjoy street photography and gorging on Japanese food.
