Oxford
I am a second year Economics & Management student at St. Hilda's College, Oxford. I am from the United States, and did the International Baccalaureate program(double IA subject - Economics, EE - physics), where I took Economics Higher Level. I am also an avid language enthusiast, and speak Mandarin Chinese, German, and am working on learning more languages in my spare time!
For tutoring, I think a mix between concepts and practical problem solving is the best approach, as this allows for a student to gain a more well-rounded view of the subject, focusing on concepts at the introductory period, and then moving onto practical problem solving to solidify the concepts. I am a big believer in past papers when studying for an exam, as past papers offer the most direct way of understanding previous questions and creating strong examination tactical skills.
I have experience teaching in China, as I did a summer program where I helped teach children English and helped developed communication skills. This experience was very valuable to me, as it helped me understand how to deliver concepts in a digestible form. I can teach economics at any level, as I took the advanced course in high school, and currently study economics at Oxford. As a result of the IB program in high school, I have extensive experience with IAs and internal essay-based coursework.
I enjoy biking through Oxfordshire and reading in my spare time. I also take time every day to work on languages, from maintaining German to learning new vocabulary in languages such as Spanish and Russian. I am also an avid traveller, and have travelled all around the world!
