Hey! I'm Billy, an avid science enthusiast studying natural sciences at Cambridge. My first year choices are Physics, Maths B, Computer Science and Materials Science. After scoring A*s in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics (full UMS) and Further Maths at A level (as well as an A in Biology AS) I managed to make it into my dream university. I wish to use what I've learnt to help others achieve their dream too.

I believe that the best method of learning is doing, and as such my approach involves guiding the student to answer questions encompassing the most challenging aspects of the course to stimulate their own way of solving the problem at hand. This is a similar method employed in the interview process, as they want to see how it is you think and adapt, almost more so than what you know. I tailor my tutoring to the needs of the person, focusing on areas of difficulty for them and working on the foundations that may seem basic but often lead to the biggest problems in understanding later on. I also like to accompany my sessions with a final word linking the subject matter to an application in the world of science or engineering, because nothing helps understand a concept more than to see its implementation. Besides, science is both fun and interesting, and we can't lose sight of that in our pursuit of being a good student.

I tutored year seven students struggling in maths for my secondary school's ,maths department. The aim was to provide them the support they need to reach their potential, and I made the subject as accessible as possible to them by demonstrating various methods of performing calculations within an optimistic and enthusiastic work environment. I like to also give a neat weekly maths fact that doesn’t entirely relate to the syllabus to do more than just prepare them for exams, but also gain their interest for further reading and the actual application of mathematics. I feel that proficiency in a subject follows enjoyment in the area. In a more informal way, I tutored a friend of mine in the year below who now also studies the natural sciences at Cambridge, and have a younger brother and sister I regularly help with their own school and university struggles.

Honestly, I'm a massive nerd. I love science and absolutely adore physics, going to talks by the university physics society in my spare time and keeping up with the latest books and developments in the field. Space has always fascinated me, but just like my love for dinosaurs I never grew out of that amazement I felt as a kid and these days I work on projects with friends on expanding our potential to explore the solar system (as well as sneak into a few Paleobiology lectures). I'm not all science though! I'm captain of my college's table tennis team and used to coach hockey. I love socialising and popping to formals with friends, as well as playing a wee bit of Pokemon on the side.
