My name is Lewis and I'm a graduate of the Natural Sciences Tripos at the University of Cambridge. I specialised in pathology, but have extensive previous experience with chemistry, pharmacology, evolutionary biology, cell biology and mathematical biologyl. I attended Bassaleg School where I obtained A*A*A* in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics A Level. I'm interested in tutoring students with a holistic view of science, who are interested in broad areas of the subject, which is an ideal fit in the Natural Sciences system at Cambridge.

It's important to ask why one is learning something. Current biology is a product of billions of years of adaptive change and progress and there are few biological features that can be fully appreciated without questioning their overarching purpose and history. By getting students to ponder the need for biological systems to operate as they currently do, large complex systems make much more sense. I will hence ask questions which do not simply rely on factual recall. This is a school of thought that was brought to my attention by my academic supervisors at Cambridge. I'm also a proponent of problem solving. The scientific Oxbridge interview is all about taking the data or information they give you and running with it for as far as you can. A student's ability to draw their own conclusions and suggest their own explanations for new problems based on their current knowledge is the most impressive skill they can offer at interview. I want to help students develop this skill.

Tutored 2 students GCSE Biology during my A Levels for 1 year. 2 years' experience on GuruMe.
