My name is Jess and i'm a 4th year medical student at Oxford. I graduated 3rd year with a 2:1 medical sciences degree focussed on neuroscience. I am available for Oxbridge mock interviews for medicine, interview preparation, personal statement mentoring, and tutoring up to A-level in biology and chemistry. I achieved 11 A*s at GCSE, A* in biology A level, A in both chemistry and physics A level, and A in maths AS level.

I think the Oxford tutorial system is a very effective approach to learning - having an interesting and challenging discussion on the topic at hand. I like to mirror this during my tutoring sessions and want the tutee to feel confident in their ability to discuss and work through a problem, even if they feel they don't know the answer. I want tutees to ask lots of questions and be vocal about their opinion and areas they don't understand, so we can discuss it together and i can fill in any gaps. I am happy to do face-to-face tutoring either in Oxford or West Suffolk (location will have to be discussed) or Skype tutoring, i am also happy to give feedback on personal statements via email.

I have previous admissions experience having helped 2 students from my high school with interview preparation and personal statement guidance. I am also a student ambassador for St John's college so have helped with school group visits, admissions workshops, open days, and subject workshops. During sixth-form i was a teaching assistant for a year 10 chemistry class and tutored students sitting their GCSEs. I have extensive volunteering experience and have taught English in both Bosnia and China!

I have lots of interests outside of medicine. I play for my college women's football team and was social secretary for the 2017/2018 season. I am a peer supporter, meaning i have 30 hours of training on how to listen and communicate effectively, and signpost people to appropriate resources - peer supporting is a really rewarding part of my life in college, and means i can try to help people who are struggling. I am also a trained 999 first responder, meaning i do shifts driving the ambulance cars and helping with first aid/emergency medicine until the ambulance arrives. I am interested in pre-hospital medicine and this is a great way to take part in it first hand. Finally, i love travelling so always make the most of time off from medicine and try and get away somewhere!
