Peterborough and Oxford
Hi! I'm Joseph, I live in the South of England, and I've just graduated from Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Brasenose College, Oxford. I've formally tutored Maths and Economics for two years now, and also have experience teaching Music, English, and other humanities. My studies at university were very broad, and this gives me a great breadth of knowledge and skills to pass onto my students. I find the most important thing with one to one tuition is taking the time to make sure students understand the concepts behind what they're learning, not just lots of facts. Having learnt a lot of subjects from the bottom up gives me a great grounding in this. Before Oxford, I was at the King's School, Peterborough, where I studied English, Music, Mathematics, and French at A-level.
- Understanding is central - students will always master one area, grasping the underlying problem, before moving on - Tailored to individual needs - all students are different, and the joy of personal tuition is being able to make each lesson unique - Planned and structured - students should always know what they're learning in each lesson, and how that fits into the overall picture they're hoping to capture
- Two years' teaching Maths and Economics formally - One year's experience teaching Music formally - Many years experience informal tutoring across the humanities generally - Experience tutoring both face to face and over the internet
Alongside my academic work, I like to row and run. I'm also a keen performing musician, playing electric and upright bass in my own bands in a variety of settings.
