My name is Victor: Thank you for taking the time to visit my profile! Several months ago, I graduated from The University of Chicago, where I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Economics, on a full Public Service Department scholarship from the government of Malaysia. Upon graduation, I decided to continue with the tutoring business that I had begun several years ago, but began to see more and more opportunities come on my plate, especially over Skype and Google Drive: Before I knew it, I had begun working with students on the Cambridge ECAA, the Oxford TSA, and had written preparatory materials for the Cambridge NSAA, and consequently have had the privilege to meet many of you from across the world from the United States, in the UK, and from Australia in your search for your goals. Prior to college, I scored 41/45 points on the IB Diploma, 9A/9A's on the SPM (the Malaysian variant of the IGCSE). I am also a perfect scorer in the SAT II, and a long time private tutor. I have made a living through tutoring students for the past several years, and find teaching to be a very liberating profession, for I have had the fortune to work with many motivated students who give me the motivation to do better as a teacher each day. Some of these students have gone on to do very well, having collectively gained 5 full scholarships and admissions to top programs in the US (Wharton UPenn, UT Austin). I look forward to helping you to achieve more successes on your journey!

My tutoring approach depends on the particular exam for which I am teaching. In all cases, the approach consists of a mutually agreed plan that is tailored to the student, contingent on the distribution of the student's needs - A student might need more help with exam-taking strategies, or wish to focus their efforts on a particular area of study. In my IELTS classes, previous approaches have included defining a syllabus, and establishing writing tasks to be completed by the student prior to a short call for feedback, during which I provide feedback on the student's written work and provide directions for further improvement. These sessions are typically conducted entirely online, via Google Drive and Google Hangouts. In my SAT classes, I have offered both topic-by-topic reviews with diagnostic questions for each topics, explaining each individual concept and providing exercises for my students to complete. For scholarship interview and admissions preparation, I have arranged mock interviews for my students during which I quiz them with questions that they are likely to receive during the course of applications. In all cases, I tailor the approach to the student and the situation, and will do so with you as well!

Four years, with students ranging from ages 18-35, from across Malaysia, China, the UK, Australia, the US, and Thailand.

I greatly enjoy learning languages, although recently the language I have had to practice most is English since I now teach IELTS quite extensively. That said, I am always happy to practice my Malay, Chinese (普通话, Cantonese, Hokkien), my Japanese, my horrible French, and my barely passable Spanish. That aside, I also enjoy music, and try to play every day! Here is my SoundCloud! www.soundcloud.com/victortanws
