I’m Phoebe, a 24-year-old prospective PhD student at with a First-class BA in Natural Sciences from Cambridge. I am an experienced learning facilitator in biology and chemistry for KS3, GCSE, A-levels, university admissions and adult learners, offering one-to-one tuition, Skype and email tuition. I will be starting my PhD in Marine Biology at the University of California, San Diego (Craig Venter Institute) next September (2017). I am passionate about teaching, mentoring and sharing my love for science. I graduated with a first class BA Hons. in Biological Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, and have 10 A* at GCSE and 5 A* at A-Level. I speak three languages fluently and have taught in five countries (UK, Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Mumbai). Having gained places on degree courses at Oxbridge and American Ivy League Colleges, I know the secret to successful exams and university admission. For the last two years, I have worked as a Research and Teaching Assistant in Molecular Biology at Imperial College London. I also worked as a live-in Subwarden and Mentor for 160 first-year undergraduates, and so have training and experience in the supervision and mentorship of young adults. During this year leading up to the start of my PhD, I will be devoting time to my other interests, namely in Education, Transformative Learning and Technology. I facilitate extracurricular workshops at schools worldwide on the subjects of Technology and Personal Development (with a focus on Mindfulness) and will be happy to weave what I have learned doing this into my tutoring and mentoring at Bonus McFarlane. More importantly, though, I am fun, friendly, energetic, patient and determined. I have a real talent for understanding students’ difficulties and explaining things clearly. I can help them exceed expectations and develop a lasting passion for learning. Work made fun gets done! I hold a full CRB disclosure for 2016.
Relaxed, friendly, focussed and thorough! I like to take things beyond the syllabus and tailor sessions to your specific interests, and aim to learn something new myself each session too.
I have been tutoring for 8 years to GCSE, A level and undergraduate level. My main subject areas have been Biology, Chemistry and Maths, however I have also taught and facilitated learning in Technology, the Future of Technology, Neuroscience, Mindfulness and Biotechnology. Having got straight A*s throughout my whole career, and a 1st Class Degree from Cambridge University, I can coach and advise you on anything from exam practise, learning routines, to personal statement writing and interview practise. I also offer tips and lifehacks on learning and personal development, like how to build confidence in certain areas and how to increase your motivation to get stuff done!
Mindfulness meditation, yoga, Thai Boxing. I also do a lot of writing, public speaking and science communication. I love to be outdoors when possible!
