Hi – thanks for checking out my profile. I’m Mark and I'm a biochemist with over 10 years experience in teaching and tutoring students in the UK and abroad. I have a PhD in Chemical Biology from Imperial College London and undergraduate and masters in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry at Oxford University (LMH college). I have an additional masters in the Chemical Biology of Health and Disease from Imperial College London, for which I was awarded a high level Distinction. I have presented my research at several national and international conferences and have published my research in peer-reviewed journals. I completed both the IB and my GCSEs at Dartford Grammar School in Kent, in which I achieved 42 points and 8A*s, 3As respectively. I hope that my career in Science and academic record gives you confidence in selecting me as a tutor! I am available for part time tutoring throughout the year in London and can offer tutoring or general advice either in person, by Skype or by email. In addition to the sciences, I can offer help with personal statements and university applications – especially Oxbridge-style interviews. Please contact me if you would like to know any more – I’m more than happy to help as I know how important selecting the right tutor is!

I believe that the best way to learn is to break things down to basics and build up knowledge on a subject – this is how I learn and how I teach others. This often means that we start at a level where we are both comfortable and increase the level at a speed that varies from student to student, ultimately arriving (or even surpassing!) certain goals. I also think it should be fun – I always learned the most when I enjoyed the classes so hopefully you’ll find that, too!

Biology/ Chemistry/Biochemistry: I have been a tutor for a number of students studying either at undergraduate level (Biochemistry) and IB/ A level (Biology or Chemistry). Over the past five years, I have mentored 5 students studying for either an MSc or MRes at Imperial College London. This involves teaching complex laboratory techniques and advice/ assessment of Master theses. I also love tutoring GCSE level students in the sciences, English or Geography – it makes a refreshing change! English: I have over 6 months teaching experience teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in Kobe, Japan, at a level as low as a High School, up to University level (Kobe University), adult business English (JETs academy) and beyond! I originally worked on a summer camp and subsequently ran the camp (teaching and organising 8 volunteers over ~20 institutions!). I am now a trustee for the charity that continues to send >60 volunteers to Kobe, Beijing and Hong Kong every year.

In my spare time I play squash and do lots of cycling – both to get from A to B and long weekend leisure rides! I am also a keen cook and often have friends over to host (hopefully) delicious meals – though that isn’t a service that comes with the tutoring!
